BIC Brunch: European Accessibility Act – Websites/Platforms & Packaging
Expert speakers reveal considerations & requirements for websites/platforms in light of the EAA with considerations for accessible packaging
Introduction
Join us in this, the 7th session of our series of webinars dedicated to Accessibility, which we have put together with the 2025 European Accessibility Act (EAA) firmly in mind.
This event follows on from 6 incredibly well received sessions that have already examined i) Back to Basics – the Legalities, ii) Accessibility Metadata, iii) Accessible Content (EPUB and PDF), iv) Alt Text, v) Fixed Layout and vi) STEM/Scholarly Publishing
Recordings of each of the above sessions (with the exception of the Legalities session)will gradually be made freely available via our YouTube Accessibility Playlist. Prior to them being published on YouTube, BIC members may request an advanced copy of any of the recordings from the above 6 sessions via info@bic.org.uk at any time.
February’s session sees our expert speakers guide us through the accessibility requirements for websites/platforms and accessible packaging. We’ll do this by covering a variety of topics concerned with the accessible experience of exploring and shopping online: from browsing, to receiving digital books to chosen devices and being able to access them confidently in a preferred reading method; or receiving a hard copy (braille, large print, audio) through the post. We’ll also hear about the Accessible Product Packaging project.
Host
- Karina Urquhart, Executive Director, BIC
Speakers
- Sydney Allen, Product Manager, GlassBoxx
- Wendy Reid, Accessibility & Publishing Standards Lead, Rakuten Kobo Inc
- Robin Spinks, Head of Inclusive Design, RNIB
Who should attend?
The EU Accessibility Act will have a far-reaching impact on the book industry supply chain, including the consideration and development/maintenance of websites/platforms. Today, most organisations have websites/online platforms and so this session will be of interest to a broad range of different book industry organisation types and professionals, especially website/platform developers, website/platform designers, content creators and those working at publishing houses, vendors, 3rd party suppliers etc. It will also be of interest to those organisations that supply content/products directly to customers (B2C).
