European Accessibility Act: Back to Basics, The Legalities

Overview

BIC Brunches are a series of live webinars which have been created for BIC members and non-members to attend to discuss book industry supply chain topics (including issues, successes, and challenges). Each BIC Brunch session is dedicated to one key area of the supply chain, offering attendees a unique opportunity to gather knowledge about that topic from experts in the field.

Introduction

Launching BIC’s brand new 2024/25 series of webinars dedicated to the 2025 European Accessibility Act (EAA), this first session will take us back to the basics and will look at the legalities. We’ll be joined by Mary Elliot, Management Partner, of Fox Williams LLP, Solicitors and Cristina Mussinelli, Secretary General of the LIA Fondazione who together will guide us through the session as we look at what the EAA is, it’s purpose, what it encompasses, what is included/not included (formats, ancillary materials, type/size of organisations, platforms, devices, platforms, purchase pages/entering credit card info etc), what needs to be done by whom, and by when. We’ll also be learning what organisations based outside to the EU need to do if they’re selling into Europe, if the act applies to printed books, what to do about titles published before 28th June 2025 but sold after 28th June 2025, and there’ll be an opportunity to understand more about the disproportionate burden extension and much, much more.

Find out what the EAA means for your organisation by joining us on 11th July 2024.

Please note that while this session explores the legalities of the EAA, it is not intended as and should not be considered as legal advice by any individual or organisation that is attending the event. With this in mind, we will also not be able to answer individual business specific queries in the session.
