BIC’s Regulation & Policy Horizon-Scanning Group
Introduction
In line with our 2025-26 Strategy, here at BIC we are establishing a cross-industry Focus Group to horizon-scan for policy and regulatory changes that may impact the book industry supply chain, with the goal of helping to anticipate, prepare, and respond effectively to requirements.
This group will bring together relevant expertise from across the BIC membership and will horizon-scan the following areas with regards to both digital and physical supply chains:
Environment and Sustainability
Technology, Information & Data
Trade & Logistics
Other areas pertaining to the book industry supply chain as deemed appropriate by the Focus Group.
Volunteers
We are now looking for between 9 -12 BIC member volunteers to help advise on this new Regulation & Policy Focus Group. Membership of the group will involve:
- Attending four meetings per year (online, with one annual in-person session),
- Actively contributing advice, relevant expertise and knowledge,
- Helping shape outputs such as (for example) a regular digest/update for BIC members.
Ideally volunteers will have access to/sight of upcoming regulations/policies. Contributing to this group will help the book industry supply chain to stay informed about and proactively react to regulatory and policy challenges.
First Meeting
The first meeting of the Focus Group will be held in the New Year – exact date TBC – likely end January/early February time.
Terms of Reference
One of the first tasks of the Focus Group in the New Year, will be to review and agree its Terms of Reference which are currently draft only, but included here to indicate the anticipated ways of working and expectations.
Application Deadline
If you’re able to commit to the volunteers’ requirements above, please confirm your interest by Friday 19th December 2025 by completing this application form and sending it to info@bic.org.uk.
Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 9th January 2026.
All upcoming BIC projects that have not yet started will be listed here with details on how BIC members can get involved. Once projects have officially launched/held their first meeting, the associated information will move to our Live Projects page.
Upcoming projects are suggested by BIC members, discussed and agreed at BIC committee level and subsequently signed off at board level as part of BICs annual strategy discussions and also periodically as required throughout the year. If you are from a BIC member organisation and would like to suggest a project for BIC to undertake, please email us at info@bic.org.uk.
