BIC Launches its New Regulations and Policy Group

BIC’s Regulations and Policy Group has been recently established as a cross-industry group charged with horizon-scanning for policies and regulations that will directly impact the book industry supply chain. This group will serve as an “early warning” mechanism and will help BIC member organisations, and the wider industry, to anticipate, prepare, and respond effectively to regulatory requirements in the coming months and years.
This BIC group, with representation from twenty organisations (currently), is now delighted to be able to share with BIC’s members the first iteration of its ‘work in progress’ regulations tracker. This tracker provides a list of upcoming regulations affecting or set to affect the supply chain and includes summary information, further detail on dates, formats affected, to whom each regulation applies and more. Updates to this document will be circulated to BIC members on a regular basis.
Mindful of regulatory deadlines, BIC will form, where necessary, cross-industry project groups to further investigate and issue BIC Guidance for the upcoming regulations, ensuring its members and the wider industry are kept informed.
Speaking of this timely, new BIC initiative, BIC’s Regulations and Policy Group Chair Laura McCormack, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at The Booksellers Association, said: “The regulatory landscape affecting the book industry is becoming increasingly complex, making it more important than ever for organisations to stay informed. BIC’s new Regulations and Policy Group brings the industry together to share knowledge, identify emerging issues and better understand the impacts of upcoming regulations. The launch of BIC’s new Regulations Tracker is an important part of that work, providing a practical, accessible resource. I’m delighted to chair the Group and look forward to working with colleagues from across the industry to support the sector in navigating regulatory change.”
BIC’s Executive Director, Karina Urquhart said: “This BIC initiative forms a key part of BIC’s new strategy over the coming years and builds on the success of our well received EUDR work and support and addresses the increasing need from our membership for an “early warning system” for regulations, specifically in terms of how they impact the book industry supply chain and trading partners internationally. BIC’s work in this space will benefit not only our members but also the wider book industry as we continue to share and make freely available BIC Guidance relating to various regulations.”
A recent outcome from this Regulations and Policy Group is the formation of a small project team tasked with producing documentation to help the book industry supply chain understand its obligations under the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
