Making Printed Books Accessible

Introduction

Join us in this, the next session of our popular series of webinars dedicated to Accessibility, which we have put together with the 2025 European Accessibility Act (EAA) firmly in mind.

This event follows on from 8 incredibly well received sessions that have already examined i) Back to Basics – the Legalities, ii) Accessibility Metadata, iii) Accessible Content (EPUB and PDF), iv) Alt Text, v) Fixed Layout vi) STEM/Scholarly Publishing, vii) Websites/Platforms & Packaging and viii) DRM and Text-to-Speech.

July’s session sees our expert speakers guide us through the accessibility considerations for printed books. Although not covered by the EAA, the accessibility of printed books cannot be ignored and here at BIC we consider it to be incredibly important that this topic is also featured as a key part of this webinar series. During this event we’ll hear how to create printed books that meet the needs of all readers—including those with dyslexia, visual impairments, and Special Educational Needs (SEN). Amongst other things, our speakers will share their accessibility expertise on subjects such as font type, font size, design tips (including colour contrast, images, layout etc), large print, braille etc.

Attendees will gain actionable insights, hints and tips, and there will also be a dedicated Q&A session which provides the perfect opportunity to ask our speakers questions.
