It is specifically aimed at those new to colour production\, those who have learnt ‘on the job’ and those who would like to develop a deeper understanding of the techniques and processes involved in the manufacture of colour books. \nCourse Outline \nThe topics covered will include: \n\nThe different print processes available and how to pick the right one for your book\nHow colour is printed\nHow an image gets to the page\, including conversion to CMYK\, screens and ink density\nHow to choose the right proof for your book\nHow to assess paper and chose the right one\nWhat impact paper can have on your book\nHow a litho press is made ready and how to press pass a book\nThe different types of binding\, their characteristics\, limitations and how to choose the right one for your book\nWhat finishes are available and how are they applied\nHow a print price is constructed and how to request a quote\nHow to produce co-editions\nThings that can go wrong at each stage\, how to recognise them and what you can do to prevent them\nThe social and environmental impact of producing your book\n\nRead the full course outline here. \nThe Trainers \nJames Gascoigne \nBusiness Development \, Pureprint \nJames has worked in print marketing services and print for over 20 years with a broad range of experience and has worked at a senior level for some of the largest printing groups in the UK. With worked examples\, hints and tips\, common pitfalls to avoid etc.\, and an insight into the publisher journey to address the requirements of the EAA this session will be of interest to those concerned with complying with the EU Accessibility Act\, particularly when it comes to STEM/scholarly publishing. \n \nHost\n\nKarina Urquhart\, Executive Director\, BIC\n\n \nSpeakers\n\nRichard Orme\, CEO at DAISY Consortium\nJames Yanchak\, Production Technologies Manager at Taylor & Francis Group.\nThird speaker\, TBC\n\n \nWho should attend?\nThe EU Accessibility Act will have a far-reaching impact on the book industry supply chain and so this session will be of interest to anyone working in the STEM/scholarly publishing world including publishers\, vendors\, and in particular\, content creators. \n \nRegistration\nTickets are FREE for BIC and BISG members and MA Publishing Students at City St George’s\, University of London. Watch it on YouTube\nIf you would like to attend this event but cannot for any reason\, you can watch both our BIC Brunch and Green BIC Brunch sessions via the BIC YouTube channel. One month after the live event\, the footage will be uploaded to the channel. \nIf you would like to remain informed about all of BIC’s forthcoming events\, including our BIC Brunch sessions\, join BIC’s mailing list. \nWe look forward to seeing you!
